Held March 14, 2024

Thank you to everyone who supported Campland on the Bay and Mission Bay RV Resort.

Because of your support, progress was made at the San Diego Environment Committee meeting.

  1. Boating: After hearing your concerns, the City requested a study to determine whether motorized boating limitations in northeast Mission Bay are necessary instead of moving forward with an outright ban. We will keep you posted on the study’s progress and opportunities for the public to weigh in on this critical issue!
  2. Interim Access to Affordable Accommodations: At the hearing, City Councilmembers directed staff to clarify that the City will work with existing lessees to ensure continued uses, like affordable accommodations, stay in place until the City is ready to implement its plans and put shovels in the ground. However, more advocacy may be needed at the final City Council hearing (expected later this year) to ensure no interruptions in public camping access before then.

These are very positive developments as Campland on the Bay, Mission Bay RV Resort, the Campland Marina and Adventure Watersports, as well as the current recreational uses (Mission Bay Golf Course, Mission Bay Boat & Ski Club, Pacific Beach Tennis Club, and Jim McAvoy fields and their youth sports programs) are likely to remain in place for years to come. At the same time, this plan goes through the development planning, permitting and funding process.

Thanks again for your support! Your voices are being heard, and these considerations were made because of your outreach!

Here’s an San Diego Union Tribune article summarizing the meeting.
